Cataloguing | Tutorial No. 2

Feedback & Notes
  • Explore interactions further; “play” with the audio, perhaps as a way to bring the design to life
  • Can we combine all tracks/ audio/ visual elements together? For example, a mix (mash-up) of tracks when you select different visual elements?
  • What emerges from this arrangement? What happens by re-arranging or changing the hierarchy, through this exercise etc.?
  • Think about the process or act of isolating text (extraction) – text as a copy, what can the pixelation or distortion can tell you about the text? (Ali Qadeer: extracting text, it’s subsequent meaning etc.) – Extends into your own knowledge (or lack thereof) of the language; seeing but not understanding. Can there be a reconciliation here?
  • Interactions with the text: maybe add the Arabic text without “understanding” it; the balance of knowing and not knowing.
  • The act of enjoying / there is no reality – not a true compression; work without understanding: what happens then?
Peer Review
  • While the visual form and aesthetic works well, perhaps I can take stronger cues from the vinyl labels themselves – is there a way to bring in these textures and colours in the website design? (Versus this clean, minimal approach)
  • The categorising can be more organised
  • Include the music! Connect it with the visuals through interaction, play etc.
  • Consider the inclusion of text (Arabic)
  • Add more background/ context/ information (music, album etc.)
  • Lacks a bit of clarity and is confusing
  • What happens when elements are combined?

Changes made after the feedback/ tutorial:

[These changes were made between Wednesday 12th – Thursday 13th November]

I added audio to the website to make it more reflective of my concept, as well as to incorporate the feedback given. Audio and associated interactions were added through basic HTML code, however, since coding on Readymag is paid, these features are not available on the published website (link above). A walkthrough of the preview has been added on Youtube to demonstrate.

Since this was done for prototyping purposes, it has not been developed to the full extent (yet).
