Methods of Iterating | Week 2

Thoughts while making
  • “Relevance” of grain – what texture is being replicated, what does the texture reveal?
  • “Discarded” – what is discarded and why? What happens to discarded material?
  • Reusing or repurposing? Textures of “discard”
  • Layer separation or partition – violence of language
  • Grain touch vs screen covered – visibility or lack there of, through dots: the absence or creation of images using texture
  • Ghost of previous setting
Tutorial Discussion
  • Use an anchor from work of this week to carry forward (example, theme)
  • What is the anti-thesis of your tool/ technology – i.e. using it for something it’s not meant for
  • Zooming in vs. out and impact on image quality – for example, amplifying the zoomed in (use the grain perhaps, what you don’t see/ visible when zooming)
  • What’s unique about this machine/ tool/ technology?
  • Explore: focus on one aspect
  • The process and technique – macro vs micro
  • Seeing through the loupe perhaps?
  • Legibility/ Lack thereof when looking at objects
  • Reflect on process and individual aspects of the tool
